How To Maintain Your Bags?
Ruining a bag because of careless usage comes naturally to most of us. We need different bags everyday – whether they’re regular handbags, fancy clutches, leather laptop bags, or luggage bags while we travel.
All bags are not created equal, and the maintenance of your bag depends largely on the material it’s made of, and the purpose of the bag itself. For example, leather bags are harder to maintain than those made of canvas.
Much like everything else, bags will serve you the way you treat them. Read on for tips and tricks to keep your bags looking new.
Handbags are as diverse as the people who use them – they come in so many different colors, shapes, and sizes, and all of them require different care.
- Never keep your handbags on the floor
Let’s start with basics. Never keep your handbag on the floor. Floors have grime, and other chemicals and substances you probably don’t want to imagine. All of this sticks to your handbag, making it really dirty. Also, you probably carry your handbag on your shoulder, and it touches your clothes. It isn’t hard to imagine what this means for the hygiene of your clothes either, especially during a global pandemic. - Clean them regularly
Handbags must be cleaned regularly, with different substances, depending on material. Canvas and cloth bags can be washed with soap and water, while leather bags require leather cleaner – an affordable and good investment. Faux leather and other synthetic materials can be cleaned with mild, regular household cleaners that aren’t soap based. - Store them well
Handbags of different sizes and materials require different storage as well. Large leather and canvas bags must be kept upright on shelves, while small handbags, like purses, or slouchy pouches, can be hung from their handles on hooks. Clutches don’t have handles, and can’t usually stand upright either, so you can store them together in shoe organizers, separately. Avoid placing them one on top of another, as this can lead to scratches and wear and tear.
For bags stored upright, make sure the handles are crosses, by putting one handle through the other, to the opposite side. This will prevent entangling of the bag straps.
If you’re storing your bags in bag pouches, make sure the pouch isn’t made of plastic or vinyl. These are impermeable materials that will trap moisture in and not let the bags breathe, deteriorating their quality, and hence, lifetime.
Last, but not the least, ensure you swap your bags regularly. Using the same handbag everyday will not only look boring, but also subject it to more wear and tear. Using 2 or 3 handbags will keep the spice alive, and make sure your bags last longer!
